Receiving a name

So, how did we actually receive our names?    Our pet is about to tell you.

Rexi

Rexi:
Arrived: April 2004
This little sweetie was dumped at a pet store in hopes to find a good home. He was labled "Non-Breeding."  The previous owner was going to destroy Rexi if the store would not take him.   Of course, the store immediately took him.   About 4 months later, while looking for bird seed, Rexi was noticed at the corner of the soon-to-be new pets eye.   Right away Rexi was out of his pen and into the arms of his soon to be pet.    Trying to convince the hubby, to allow this sweetie to share the same home as him, was not so hard.   Once the store worker said that Rexi could go Free to a good home, the hubby had no excuses!    However, little did he know the expenses that were necessary for the making of the cage...hehe
Upon leaving, Rexi's new pet asked the store clerk if Rexi had a name.   The store clerk answered with Rex.   Since the name Rex was not too appealing to the new pet, the letter " I "  was added at the end.   A short time later, Rexi's new pet learned that ratties need a rattie companion.   So, the search was on for a buddy for Rexi.   Rexi sleeps most of the time, but when those treats come calling his name, he is full force...gimmy, gimmy, gimmy!..hehe

Dodge

Dodge:
Arrived: May 2004
Dodge and Nibbs were cell mates.   During a spring cold snap, for the survival of our Purple Martins, a trip to the city was in order.    While waiting for the 2000 crickets to be counted and packaged, our soon-to-be pet did some floor walking.   Of course, she headed straight for the ratties.   There were only 2 available.    Dodge was extremely shy.   He tried to escape the attempts of a scritch and cuddle.   Since the idea of leaving one rat alone was not an option, despite his scared nature, Dodge was purchased.   What a Blessing!    Dodge is now the most un-shy, mischievous, got to explore everything and get into everything rattie.    He loves to play "gotcha" and dive for carrots in his bowl of water.    His name was most difficult to acquire.    Many days of thought went into the decision.    Our dogs name is Chevy, since the families favorite make of vehicle is a Chevrolet.   Well, since 3 family members each purchased a Dodge vehicle, within a short period of time a couple years ago, the Dodge dealership insisted that we changed Chevy's name to Dodge.    Of course, this was out of the question.    So, that is how Dodge received his name.    Hope the Dodge dealership is satisfied...hehe.

Nibbs

Nibbs:
Arrived: May 2004
This little fuzz butt chose his pet.   He was sharing an aquarium cell with Dodge when his soon-to-be pet came snooping in on them.   She had her hand resting on the end of the cell, while having a conversation with her hubby.   All of a sudden, OUCH!, her hand had been invaded with rattie claw marks.   Little Nibbs, not more than 4 months old, had tried to leap right out of the cell.   Being taken back in an awe " he must wanna come home with me"  feeling, it wasn't long before Nibbs was taken captive and placed in his moving van.    His name was fairly easy to achieve.   Nibbs liked to Nibble on his new pets fingers, thus his name.   Despite the aggressive nature, shown at the store, Nibbs is very skittish and shy.     In his home, Nibbs runs around without hesitation.   However, when taken out of his home, for play time, he prefers to burrow and hide.   Nibbs is also considered the "bendable" baby.  He seems so agile and his pet just can't help squishin him into a ball and smothering her face in him.   So, when his pet wants to give scritches and smooches, he is stuck with em'. hehe

Chippers and Dale

Chippers and Dale:
Arrived: October 2004
Ok, since our Pet doesn't know anything about our life, before she gave us a loving home, details will be short and sweet.  Being a member of the "RATLIST" has given our pet many, many new rattie acquaintances.   It is one of these extremely kind acqaintances that found Dale and I while she was shopping in the store.   Dale, the power groomer wanna be, is the "shy" one, so I will be doing all of the talking.  Come on Dale...How can I give details with you trying to power groom me?   We had been previously owned, were about 1 1/2 years old, and were dumped at the pet store to be you know,"food!" ***shiver, shiver**   The reason we were dumped at the pet store...your guess is as good as ours!  Anyway, this very kind, loving girl named CARLI gave us a temporary residence.   She posted a message on the Ratlist, to find us a forever home.  Not much time had passed before our soon-to-be pet called and claimed us.  A few days later we were on our way to our "forever" home.  After quarentine time had passed, our new pet; being inexperienced in rattie introductions, put Dale and I with the resident ratties.  Well!....I am so miffed.  How dare she put me, an Alpha rattie, in with another Alpha rattie???  Of course, I had to show WHO was the boss.  My new pet was NOT at all happy with my actions.  The wound I enflicked, on my adversary, gave me the name Chippers.   I guess my pet wants me to be reminded of my misdemeaner for the rest of my life.   Dale on the other hand is the hero....and he didn't do anything outside of sniffing everything!    The wounded, Alpha rattie, was rushed to the veterinarian right away.  Of course, the vet's name just happened to be Dale.  Thus, giving my "shy" buddy the name of the one; who brought complete healing, to the one I wounded.  (Did I confuse you?...smiles*)  I get stuck with the "reminder" and Dale gets rewarded by receiving the name of the Veterinarian.    Thanks Mom!
